Additional information
from Luit de Jong (30.07.2006):
Mysto Dysto was formed by guitarplayer Luit de Jong on December the 12th 1981. The name Mysto Dysto was taken from the Loco Box distortion effect pedal. The pedal got really bad reviews in all magazines, the sound was called rotten and the quality of the pedal bad. This was the occassion for Mysto Dysto to use that name for their band. The band was completed by bass player Han Koops and drummer Klaus van den Berg in March 1982. In September 1982 Han and Luit also took care of all lead vocals.
Songs written in those days are:
  • Heavy Metal Fools
  • What's in my car
  • Back in another place
  • Driving through the morning
  • Heavy guys don't look back
  • Magic Touch
Every Saturday they practiced in Het Pakhuis (The Warehouse) in Coevorden. So many fans came to see the band during these rehearsal days, it seamed more like a concert than just a rehearsal. During those days Luit met guitar player Marcel Verdurmen who was playing in the schoolband at that time and he joined Mysto Dysto in January 1983. Two months later bass player Han Koops left the band and Mysto Dysto was a trio again.
Due to the fact that the band couldn’t find a good bass player, the two guitar players both took care of this, as well as singing lead vocals. Their first concert is playing on the HAVO (Highschool) in Emmen on March the 10th 1983. In spring 1983 four songs were recorded in the Plahadima Studios in Heerlen; Heavy Metal Fools, Black Rose, What’s in my car and Everything I need. During the summerholidays in 1980, guitarplayer Luit met Eric van der Heide, lead singer of a rock band from Groningen. Eric liked metal music more than rock music and decided to join Mysto Dysto in 1984 on request of Luit.
At this time Mysto Dysto's line-up is:
  • Lead vocals - Eric van de Heide
  • Guitar/bass - Luit de Jong
  • Drums - Klaus van den Berg
  • Guitar/bass - Marcel Verdurmen
In July 1984 the band recorded the demo Heavy Guys Don't Look Back in the studio in Bergum, Friesland. The poor quality demo contained eight songs, but metal fans liked the demo a lot and it sold very well.
In November 1984 the band recorded another demo containing four songs, among them Bombastic Rock and Automatic Artillery. At that time Mysto Dysto was noticed more by concerthall owners and this demo gave them the opportunity to play more across the country. While all band members put more time into the band leadsinger Eric decided to leave the band, because hie life was to busy outside Mysto Dysto. Soon a new leadsinger is found in the person of Peter Meijering and his high vocals suited well in the music of Mysto Dysto. The fans also screamed for an album of Mysto Dysto and the band decided to record an album in 1986. They recorded their first and only album `The rules have been disturbed` in the MP Studio in Blijham, Groningen in only one week. The album is a limited edition of only 500 copies.
On the 7th of February 1986, the album presentation took place in Smithy's Place in Coevorden. A lot of fans, from all over the country, came to see their presentation. The album 'The Rules have been disturbed' got really good reviews in all metalmagazines and they did a lot of concerts al over the Netherlands. Unfortunately a record contract is not offered and the band decided to record another demo `No Aids in Hell`. This demo led to a record deal with Disaster Records in Germany, but is also the end of the band Mysto Dysto and the beginning of Mandator.
