Artist: Midnight ChaserAlbum: Rough And ToughReleased: 2011A mixture of styles and genres: Heavy Metal Review:Did they promise us Deep Purple? They did. Did they promise the music from the 70s? They did. Well, get the promised and don't say that you expected something else!
Midnight Chaser is Heavy based on the music of the 70s and early 80s, a sort of pre-Heavy blending into the early Heavy.
Someone feels the influence of NWoBHM in the sound of this band, almost of the certain bands of this style, and someone hears the early Judas Priest. But for me it is mostly a mixture of everything, rather than something definite.
Let's talk about the songs themselves: is this variety a fruit of the interesting mixture of music, ideas and interest moments of the above mentioned bands, or is it just the stylized songs of these bands? Because I really hear very familiar tunes. So, is it the masked cover versions, or were Midnight Chaser so much inspired by the certain songs of the 70s, that they remade them aurally? I will not answer this question, let the people decide for themselves.
I can say many good things about the way the musicians play, they really did a wonderful job without errors, fraud, or laziness. Both the voices and guitars are quite presentable. Although the musicians have not yet been featured in any other (more or less) known project, one cannot say that they lack experience in performing good-quality music.
Well, will the band be able to achieve something more in future? I do not know whether it is possible to achieve something more relying on the music of the 70s, because the music of this time has been conserved long ago, and is not developing anymore. If any changes, fresh ideas or just something extraordinary is brought to the music, then we will be able to talk about the band's growth, or it will be just the promised Deep Purple, that will remain.
