Lor - demo Review

back to reviews

Artist: Lor

Album: demo

Released: 2012

A mixture of styles and genres: Melodic Progressive Heavy Metal

Do you know what reviews are for? I'm not talking about the purchased praise reviews for the albums of those bands that have not produced worth things for a while. I speak about new bands that want to show what they can, and the review purpose is to find something interesting.
This demo album consists of only three tracks. Apart from the fact that they last 8 minutes, the music is quite various. The basis of the music of this band is Progressive. This is particularly noticeable in the beginning, last track is more technical melodic Heavy. I have not found expected Folk in this album - well, you can not just name some oriental motif Folk...
What is particularly valuable in this music? First of all, the guitar. This is an interesting technique, many solos and riffs will not leave you indifferent. Secondly, the melodic component. In this music, there are moments that are memorable, and even the original. By the way, though this is demo, it already contains some interesting arrangements, which further could turn into something quite significant.
What are the points for growth? Vocals. The first track shows that the vocals are not always in harmony with the rest of the music, then this effect is somehow hidden by the successful combination of music and arrangements. Also we should not forget about the high potential of instrumental music, this is effectively manifested in many parts of this demo. The experiments with Progressive should be continued, but not more than on the first track, when certain confusion in Progressive-sounding is already apparent.
