Killers - Killing Games Review

back to reviews

Artist: Killers

Album: Killing Games

Released: 2001

A mixture of styles and genres: Speed Metal

I guess I was wrong imagining that France has got nothing to do with such music as Metal. Killers have proved the opposite! Their album "Killing Games", their only album in English, can fairly be called Speed Metal classics. Actually, I would characterize their style as Speed and Power, for there is less aggression than in the music of Living Death, or Exciter, and much more melody. The songs, though speedy, are rather melodic and memorable. Most of the songs start with a fast-killing intro, then the rhythm changes and slows down, but suddenly gains speed again. These rhythm changes add to a charm of every song on the album and make it special. There is not a single repetitive song on the album; the second track is a bit slower than the rest, but double bass makes it sound no less Heavy.
Bruno Dolheguy has rather strong voice, which is something average between coarse and clean. His screams are not so loud, and his singing can in no way be called plangent, but it fits the music perfectly. But the strongest point of the band is surely the solos. They sound as if the band has specially prepared them for a sweet course. They are complicated, catchy, beautiful and changeable - every solo consists of several musical themes, and it is the most remarkable feature. Every time I heard a solo, it gave me good vibrations, and I liked the way it died away each time to give place to the tough and solid rhythm section.
Overall, the album deserves the highest mark, and the band is surely cannot be considered inferior to the greatest and most famous bands of the genre. Every song has identity, and so does the album in general.
