Artist: Six MagicsAlbum: The Secrets of an IslandReleased: 2003A mixture of styles and genres: experimental Speed Power Metal Review:This is my second review of their music. And this conceptual disc, beyond
all question, presents us more mature, more complicated and to a certain
extent more progressive songs than those on their previous album. The
first track (intro) sounds gracefully and resembles "Silk and
steel" of Savatage but is a bit more folk-oriented. Then choir
vocals, general mood and voice of a singer forced me to remember Blind
Guardian and Rhapsody. Loud choir vocals, fast and slow acoustic musical
passages, tunes a-la Blind Guardian alternate all the time. They took the
idea of mixing a whole lot of musical elements from Rhapsody, some ideas
from Nightwish and Blind Guardian and created their own unique musical
world. I can't but say that their music is more qualitative than that of
the majority of modern Speed and Power metal bands. And it's hard to
believe that these are their first steps in musical world. Their tunes
are
sometimes very sad and touching ("Cradle of sorrow") and at the
same time majestic. Maybe it would be better not to use choir vocals so
often. All the disc seemed to be a little monotonous. But this
shortcoming
can be overcome in the future. In other respects their music sounds good
enough. They are able to create their own songs with their own ideas.
This
is the main thing for the world-wide success.
