Rebellion - Miklagard - The History of Vikings part II Review

back to reviews

Artist: Rebellion

Album: Miklagard - The History of Vikings part II

Released: 2007

A mixture of styles and genres: Power Metal

Thinking about the most impressive albums of 2007 Rebellion's Miklagard comes to my mind first. After their first three excellent attempts they came with the fourth one, which, although it doesn't differs from the previous ones much, has its own uniqueness and charm. Uwe's songwriting potential seems to be inexhaustible. On Miklagard you can find everything, which will make a true fan of true Power Metal bang his head to death: powerful riffs, catchy tunes, vigor, which can be felt even in mid-tempo songs, to say nothing of the breath-taking fast tracks, and of course the vocals. Michael Seifert is surely one of the best singers on the metal scene. His rough mighty voice is very well fit to the viking Metal style, in which the band plays, and, hearing him singing you can easily imagine a Viking on a battlefield with a sword in his hand, "whistling death as he swings it faster". And it is of course his unique manner of singing, which makes him easily recognizable.
There isn't a single filler on the album. Every song is special. In my opinion, Miklagard is a classic example of what metal music should be. There are no ballads, mid-tempo songs like Kiew, The Rus, God of Thunder and the title-track are intermingled with the fast killers like Ulfberth, Taste of Steel and Airfur. Overall, the music perfectly conveys the atmosphere of cold northern countries, wild seas and battlefields. So, if you have a wish to turn back time, to travel back to the ancient times and to meet severe cruel Vikings face to face, this album is a right choice for you.
