Minstrelix - Memoirs Review

back to reviews

Artist: Minstrelix

Album: Memoirs

Released: 2007

A mixture of styles and genres: Melodic Speed Power Metal

Review:

Here is another for Japanese Melodic Metal: MinistreliX. The band is completely Europe-oriented, so you will hardly find anything truly Japanese here, anything that will be appreciated by Japanese listeners only and cannot be apprehended in other countries. Even the lyrics are completely in English, although I personally like Japanese bands singing in their native language.
Well, basically their music represents a kind of mixture of Rhapsody and, let's say, of the old Dark Moor or other similar bands with female voice, with some elements of Progressive. The music is not only just speedy rhythms and voice as a leading instrument, but also the abundant guitar and keyboards solos, and a part of the keyboard solo reminded me of the awesome X-Japan traditions. And it is not all! In the middle of the album the band suddenly switches off to Jazz performed in the corresponding style. It is a really unexpected decision to make music not only beautiful, but also different from the rest.
I think that after all I said above there is no need to discuss professional level of the musicians, as only truly great musicians can play such a fine music!
As to the songwriting abilities: may be they remind of the European bands somehow, but songs of MinistreliX are a kind of fresh and bright, and musical diversity throughout the album, admirable solos, choruses and just some guitar riffs just help to perceive this band as a newborn star of the worldwide Melodic Metal scene.
